A series of five one act plays by one of Britain’s most prolific playwrights investigate human loneliness in middle England with charm and satire. From the desperation of a wife left with the kids while her husband plies his trade as a traveling salesman, to the same husband suffering a humiliating rejection at the hands of two young women in the bar of his hotel, the scenes shift focus from play to play following a character or character link. In Between Mouthfuls this theme is highlighted as we follow the waiter; hearing only what he hears of the diner’s conversations. The style of theatre is distinct for each play, Gosforth’s Fete, is a high-octane farce while the final play, A Talk in the Park, forms an epilogue to the show with a series of monologues that fall on deaf ears.
