Chaucer's Canterbury Tales have long been hailed as a masterpiece of medieval storytelling. The scheming and sexual exploits of the characters have entertained audiences for centuries and the bawdy humour never ceases to amuse. Adapted by Phil Woods, the Tales were originally written in Middle English, and although the language has been updated, the universal appeal remains the same. The characters are concerned primarily with the lewd discussion and farcical pursuit of sex, in all its naughtiness and taboo. This inevitably leads to trouble and hilarious consequences for the scurrilous suitors, cuckolded husbands and conniving wives.

Tacit is transforming the space in the Arthur Cotterell Theatre in Kingston into a true medieval tavern, with the aim of providing an evening of entertainment unlike any other. Our new show aims to bring a new element to the theatre experience, involving the audience with the the stories, the music, and the resulting party.
